Wasps

Treatment:
Wasps are seasonal pests that occur from as early as May and continue into late autumn. They are readily identifiable by their black and yellow markings and are sometimes mimicked by other harmless insects that are attempting to appear more fierce than they actually are. A wasp nest is a constant hotbed of activity. Usually if you have a nest in your home it is often found in the loft, although they are found in airbricks and other voids. You should be able to determine if you have a colony, as there will be a stream of workers flying to and from the nest. Old nests tend not to be reused as they break down over the winter months due to their delicate construction. At no time would we recommend you attempt to deal with this problem yourself as it can often lead to people being seriously injured.
Treatment:
To destroy a wasp nest we will use an insecticide that comes in a powder form. We can either tackle the entrance from the outside of the property, or alternatively we can access the loft and treat it directly. The treatment is probably the most straightforward of all the various pests we deal with. Once a nest has been targeted, it can take up to 24 hours for the activity to completely subside. This would be a consideration if you were having other work carried out in the vicinity e.g. roofing, painting and decorating.
