Pharaoh Ants
Description:
These ants are not like your regular garden ant, in both appearance and behaviour. Firstly they are a lot smaller - 2-3mm long - and are orange/brown in colour. They also have multiple queens which will divide the colony into lots of smaller colonies to ensure their survival if you spray them with insecticide: this is called budding.
Treatment:
Bait stations are placed in areas where the ants are known to frequent, in this case usually the kitchen and bathroom. This product has two effects; firstly, it sterilizes the queen, thus preventing her from producing more eggs. Secondly, it contains an Insect Growth Regulator (IGR), which prevents the larvae from maturing into workers. It can take multiple visits and many months to gain control.
