Cockroaches

Description:
In the UK we generally get two types, although there are many other types. The first example is a German cockroach. This is brown in colour with two dark parallel bands near its head. The second type is slightly larger, but much darker in appearance; this type is the Oriental cockroach. The main differences between the two are the German cockroach is an excellent climber and will scale vertical surfaces, whereas the oriental tend to be found on the floor. The other important factor where treatment is concerned is that the oriental deposits the eggs that can hatch out many weeks later, therefore it is important to monitor after treatment.
Treatment:
This involves a two-pronged approach. Firstly we will apply a liquid residual spray to give a quick knock down, followed by applying a gel treatment. This has a long lasting effect, and also a “domino” effect. Cockroaches by their nature are cannibalistic and will eat dead roaches. In this instance the dead roaches will pass the pesticide on and continue to kill off the roaches that have eaten the dead ones. It is again important to monitor the effectiveness of the treatment; this is done by using sticky monitor pads, these also have the benefit of capturing live roaches, thereby reducing the infestation further.
